Requirements

Cylinder cupboard.

You will need to have a location to put a cylinder in . This could be an existing boiler cupboard, a 600mm wide kitchen unit, a bathroom cupboard, or in some cases attic space, cellars, or under floor boards.

Heat Pump Location

You will need to have a location in the garden or on a flat roof.
It is permitted to attach heat pumps on to walls at ground floor level.
Within a garden, heat pumps are typically 1m high 1m wide and 40cm deep. They need to have clearance behind and to the sides of 30cm and in front of the heat pump they need 1.5m clearance.This space allows adequate air flow without recirculating cold air inefficiently.

Permission?

Most heat pumps can be installed within permitted planning development, which we check under MCS regulations for both noise levels and visual impact.
If situated on a flat roof it is necessary to keep heat pumps usually a meter away from boundaries and out of certain sight lines. We know these regulations and can advise how to overcome any of these restrictions on a case by case basis.

Large Radiators

Large radiators are usually required. We work for the environment. We want your bills to be lower. Heat pumps work most efficiently with a low fluid circulation temperature. This can be achieved by increasing radiator sizes. We have learned that it is better to increase radiator sizes as much as possible to ensure efficient running costs. (larger radiators cost little more than medium ones and typically take 1 hr to swap). We prefer to change radiators at cost price rather than compromising the efficiency of the system.
